I speak from experience when I say human-centered solutions and services matter.
In my previous career as a substance abuse counselor and facilitator, one of the most effective components of group counseling was teaching coping mechanisms and how to navigate personal triggers. The goal? Empower individuals to manage their challenges be it addiction or trauma by recognizing and applying emotional, physical, and mental well-being strategies that support better decision-making. Sometimes that meant making a healthier choice in the moment; other times, it meant walking away entirely from a harmful environment.
Fast forward to today, and I’m seeing a strikingly similar pattern but now it's unfolding in the digital landscape.
Through years of volunteerism, mentoring, and consulting work with youth and adults, I’ve witnessed firsthand the emotional and cognitive toll of today’s tech-driven environment. The same support we once offered in clinical group settings is now urgently needed to help individuals, especially young people build digital resilience, emotional regulation, and media literacy.
While we wait for “big tech” and social media giants to implement meaningful guardrails and accountability, we don’t have time to wait on the sidelines.
Our Response: Digital Literacy & Emotional Intelligence Education
